White Beach, famed for its powdery white sands filling a stretch of four kilometres, again captures the attention of travellers by grabbing a significant spot in TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards 2014.
The famous beach, described as being “really amazing” for its “white, powdery beach sand that doesn’t get hot even at noon,” grabbed the top spot in the online travel magazine’s list of best 25 Asian beaches this year. Boracay’s White Beach also ranked first in the website’s Asian list in 2013.
How does TripAdvisor rank Boracay worldwide?
Worldwide, Boracay White Beach has been recognised as the 19th best beach, climbing five places from rank 24 in last year’s list of the best 25 beaches in the world. The highest recognition this year went to Baia do Sancho in Brazil.
The 2014 regional list by TripAdvisor also recognised two other beach destinations in the Philippines. Dubbed as the “perfect beach,” Boracay’s Puka Beach (also known as Yapak Beach) ranked sixth this year, climbing three places from rank 9 last year. El Nido’s Secret Lagoon Beach, with its “computer screen-saver” quality, snatched the fourth spot.
Boracay started to draw the eyes of international travellers since 2011 when Travel + Leisure ranked it fourth (second in Asia) in its list of Top 10 Islands in the world. The following year, the same magazine raised it to the pedestal, labeling it as the best island in Asia and the world.
How did TripAdvisor rank Boracay previously?
TripAdvisor, however, ranked Boracay as the second-best beach worldwide in 2011. In 2012, Boracay slipped four places, taking the sixth spot.
Aside from being the best island or beach, Boracay has always been recognised by different publications and websites, giving it a place in various lists: for relaxation, for nightlife; as a destination for summer, romance, backpacking; and as a rising star destination.
